The Schreiber family began as a roofing company in 1916 as Schreiber Roofing Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. However, the company’s roots date back to the late 1800s in New York City. Edward Schreiber, the 4th generation of this roofing family, joined the business in 1945 after graduation from the University of Michigan. During the 1950s’ the industry was booming with many new contractors entering the industry. At that time, Schreiber Roofing Corporation started losing large contracts. Edward Schreiber soon recognized the problem. Other contractors were installing inferior roof systems that were failing. Subsequently, all roofers were suffering the loss of trust brought on by inferior competitors. On a mission to restore confidence in the roofing industry, he left the family business convinced a thriving business could be based on the prevention of roof trouble, and Construction Consultant Inc. (CCI) was born in 1959. CCI became the first roofing consultant to act as the owner’s advocate in the roofing industry.
Roof Consulting is in Our Blood
Working with the U.S. Air Force in the early 1970s, CCI developed a roofing consultant model based on a proactive philosophy of anticipating and correcting small or potential problems before becoming larger issues. In 1985, Building Technology Associates (BTA), a new roofing company formed by Edward Schreiber, introduced computer technology specially developed to leverage their experience and create an automated, standardized approach to roof asset management. BTA has won numerous awards over the decades, including when our Roof Asset Management Program won the U.S. General Service Administration (GSA) Achievement Award for Real Property Innovation for our work with the Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Now, the 5th generation continues to be a leader and innovator in Roof Asset Management with our cutting-edge and proprietary software, RoofSuite®, and other advances including the use of Infra-Red Drones. By continuing to incorporate technology in our process, we look to the future to make it safer and more efficient to serve our clients as a roofing consultant.
As BTA grows, we are looking to expand our roofing consultant services to include pavement and building envelope consulting, as well as emergency leak response and repair. We will also offer warranty tracking and claims assistance as part of our Total Roof Management. As we have in the past, we continue to implement innovations to better serve our customers.
BTA is proud to be an IIBEC member. IIBEC is universally recognized as the leading authority in building enclosure consulting.
